The UK Goverment are currently airing this advert on itv along with others.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QD2WTK94c1U
Is it right that this should be shown (and at kids viewing time)?
I look away/change channel when I see it. It reminds me of the way
Hitler brain washed the youth.
I am beginning to feel this whole global warming… Opps… climate change
as it’s called now is just one hell of a good idea by global goverments to
tax us more. Now how much is that Aston V12?

Couldn’t agree with you more. I believe that the government tries to put as much fear in us as possible so they can get you yo decide on one candidate over another candidate so they can make more money and watch us suffer. I was even a bit scared when I watched they made a bedtime story scary, bad idea.I wonder what the boys think of it?

Reminds me of “scare tactic” or “negative” adverts that are shown during US political
campaigns. Why not be sensible and just remind people to turn off their lights, recycle, etc.

They should take a different approach to making people aware of things.

What gets me upset about this is that this is not only a scare tactic, but that it is aimed at children. I find it ironic that we can protect our kids from getting paint on the living room carpet, but we can’t shield them from scare tactics like this.  I don’t know if they teach history in schools anymore, but this reminds me of the old cold war adverts, and before that the propaganda machine that was Nazi occupied Germany.  Now, I don’t go back that far! But I was a history major in school and you pick up bits like that.

Let’s get one thing straight in our heads though.  We are not, i repeat,NOT saving the planet. The planet does not need “saving”.  The planet has withstood its creation, green water earth, snowball earth, slimy critters, thunder critters, really weird mammalians, numerous asteroid strikes, mini ice ages, shifting plates, and supervolcanoes that go foom.  It will withstand us too.

HOWEVER, what is at risk is not the planet.  It is the planet as WE KNOW IT.  The nice relatively comfy place where the worse that can happen is limited to usually just one part of the globe at a time.  It is our life style that is at risk.  Get the right combination of things going, and you won’t have to worry about the terrorists, we’ll all be rowing towards dry land.  Or cooler land. Or away from what ever is next.

We do have issues.  The world as we know it is changing faster than our big but woefully unfocused brains can change. We do need to make changes, but pressing the panic button doesn’t work long term and long term change is what will save US.  Not the planet. Us.

Fear usually causes panic, or denial or anger.  All of those are just plain wasted energy.  No pun intended, but cool heads must prevail if we are as a world are going to tackle this.

But here is the real problem.  The human heart (the emotional one) is too small to affect the one thing that could make all of this easier, and that is seeing the other guy as a person, and not an enemy or a nuisance or a non person.  Get round that, and you could make real progress on everything else.

Yeah, good luck with that…..

Got to love this ad running with all the emails that were just leaked showing that they have been covering up the decline in the global temp. Just like what they are trying to do here, the only way to save the earth for some reason requires a tax…The Taxpayers’ Alliance of the UK said in 2005 green taxes and charges in that year raised £21.9 billion for the UK government, it is just about the elite in power using this issue to steal our money.

To quote the great clarksonius “We are being governed by imbecile’s”. My car is turbo on 1000cc injectors and has no emissions on the exhaust. I can feel it getting warmer already.
