Thomas Cromwell furthers his plans for a Protestant queen by commissioning a portrait of Anne of Cleves by court painter Hans Holbein (Peter Gaynor). Though Holbein finds Anne shy and unworldly, King Henry is pleased with her likeness and hastily enters into a marriage contract.
Meanwhile, the king’s oppression of the Catholic Church may finally be catching up with him… Cromwell warns that war seems imminent following a treaty between Emperor Charles V and the King of France, with the unspoken support of the Pope.
