Thomas Cromwell furthers his plans for a Protestant queen by commissioning a portrait of Anne of Cleves by court painter Hans Holbein (Peter Gaynor). Though Holbein finds Anne shy and unworldly, King Henry is pleased with her likeness and hastily enters into a marriage contract.
Meanwhile, the king’s oppression of the Catholic Church may finally be catching up with him… Cromwell warns that war seems imminent following a treaty between Emperor Charles V and the King of France, with the unspoken support of the Pope.
Henry’s eldest daughter grew up disowned by her father and separated from her mother, Katherine of Aragon and eventually earned the epithet ‘Bloody Mary.’
