Freddie becomes more convinced that Ruth was murdered and discovers a mysterious code that reads 'revert to Brightstone.'

With the country divided over the war in Suez, The Hour is feeling pressure from the Prime Minister and Angus McCain (Julian Rhind-Tutt) to tow a pro-government line. But with a huge anti-war protest looming, Freddie wants to present the story differently.

Freddie learns more about 'Bright Stone,' which is code for supporting the Soviet cause, and that Ruth was involved.

Pressure mounts on Bel and Hector when news of their affair gets out and they decide to end it.

Tensions are high as the news team prepare to defy government instruction in order to deliver a controversial report on the crisis in Suez.

As Freddie's interview with Lord Elms, Ruth's father, goes out denouncing the government, it's taken off the air halfway through the show by the higher-ups.

Bel is fired by the BBC and Freddie confronts Clarence, who tells him that he had put him on the Bright Stone list and he is a communist spy.
