Lord Elms, a renowned lawyer, was a decorated World War I veteran. May Lyon, Freddie’s mother, was one of his first secretaries and he stayed in close contact with her. During the Blitz in World War II, Lord Elms took Freddie into his home to live and found in Freddie the son he never had. However, his wife wouldn’t allow Freddie to stay with them after the war — something Lord Elms has never truly forgiven her for.
