Recent events have not been kind to evolutionary zoologist Nick Cutter and his crack team of scientists at the Anomaly Research Center (ARC). Still reeling from research assistant Stephen Hart's death and contemplating the extent of his wife Helen's betrayal, he fights to re-focus his embattled team.
Unfortunately, time is not on their side. The anomalies continue to churn out an array of new terrors, from a very angry Giganotosaurus — which dwarfs a T-Rex — to a fast-moving killer fungus. Even more confounding is the appearance of some rather nasty creatures steeped in ancient folklore.
Now, with new additions archeologist Sarah Page and Head of Security Captain Becker, Cutter's team must race to crack these mysteries. But the team's cloak of secrecy is beginning to slip. Detective Danny Quinn needles the team, and increasing public scrutiny may jeopardize the future of the ARC project.
Will the team solve the puzzle of past, future and mythology? Will they outsmart their predators — both beasts and human? In this struggle to protect the future of humankind, it's feeding time again...
What Is The Anomaly?
Anomalies are openings in time that allow creatures and objects to pass between different eras in history, both past and future. Appearing on "temporal fault lines," anomalies seem to pop up in the oddest locations - subways, swimming pools, shopping malls, basements of private homes. Long-extinct predators from prehistoric times can pass through and wreak havoc on the present-day. But creatures from the future can travel through as well.
As shown on previous episodes of the series, humans can go through the anomalies, but they must be very careful not to bring anything back, as objects taken from other eras can alter the entire course of history.
Anomalies have a strong magnetic field, and they show up at the same frequency as 87.6 FM. With this knowledge, Connor Temple built an anomaly detector, allowing the Primeval team to know where anomalies appear and react. They must act quickly because anomalies can disappear before they have time to return any unwanted visitors to their proper time.
