Episode 2: What You Didn’t Know About ‘Transgressive Border Crossing’

Here are behind-the-scenes secrets from our very own Orphan Black production team!

CLONE-ON-CLONE ACTION
When M.K. and Beth hug at the end of this episode, it is the first time our clones actually hug each other on the show. Now you are all thinking “No! Not true! They’ve hugged lots.” Sort of! The audience has actually only ever seen what looked like a hug before, made possible by an editorial trick and/or by using Kathryn, our acting double, and Tatiana to “fake” the hug. This year our VFX team pulled it off with Tatiana and Tatiana! So what you see is Tatiana actually hugging herself.

FIRES BURNING
Director John Fawcett had one take to burn down the Icelandic cabin, ONE TAKE. Talk about pressure to get it right!

Fun Fact: We took the actual set from inside our studio outside to the back lot and set it on fire. Bye-bye Kira’s sock monkey.
