Simon Pegg will be pulling double-duty on the third installment of the Star Trek film series, set to co-write and star, reports BBC News.
Pegg’s official Twitter account, moderated by Harmony Carrigan, has confirmed the assignment:
It’s true! Simon is currently working on the screenplay for the third Star Trek film with Dark Blue writer, Doug Jung. – HC

He and TV writer Doug Jung (Dark Blue) will be taking over the writing responsibilities; with Pegg also returning to revise his role as Enterprise engineer Montgomery Scott, better known as “Scotty.”
Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious) will step in as director with J.J. Abrams no longer on deck.
This isn’t Pegg’s first time helming a script, with 23 writing credits that include the hugely popular action comedies like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.
