By nature this plump, flightless bird is placid and curious. The show’s portrayal of the Dodo is very close to the truth, as described by an 18th century sailor who encountered these birds on the island of Mauritius. Related to the pigeon, the Dodo could not fly, as evidenced by its portly frame and stubby wings. Its benign nature may have made it prone to predators, but ultimately deforestation was responsible for the Dodo’s demise.
