‘Black’-Listed: Requiem for the German

Every clone deserves a playlist – even the red-headed German dupe. We asked ‘Orphan Black’ co-creator Graeme Manson for a musical ode to the clone we lost too soon.

Graeme Manson: Katja Obinger, wir lieben Sie. But we hardly knew ya. You had cool hair, a funky coat, and a nasty cough. Were you just a Red Shirt? Or do you still hold a key? Why is your playlist so frickin’ cool-ironic? Just because you’re German? This can’t be merely Deutsche Red Shirt music, can it? Peter Schilling’s Das Princip Mensche is like pouring processed American nacho cheese on a schnitzel – it should be total shite, but it’s awesome!

Awesome like you, Katja Obinger. Rest in peace.

Really? Where’s “These Boots Were Made For Walkin”?

    • ScottMetter

Probably not there because Nancy Sinatra isn’t German.

They played a German version of that song in the scene where Sarah poses as Katja and goes to the hotel to get the briefcase.

There are just popular songs that are very famous (international) for whatever reason, but dont make much sense. Nobody in germany listens to these. Especially no Ramstein especialy no “Du hast”,

They have a great show so we go sometimes to a concert but thats it. The text just doesn’ make any sense. “You!!(du)(long pause) You have(du hast)!! (long pause) (du hasst mich)You hate me!!!” Yes this is what they say, no grammar mistake in the translation or anything…Why would I want to hear that 4 times?? When you turn on the radio there is Green Day, Lincon Park, Ich& Ich etc.

Liza. I think I’d rather listen to Du Hast rather than most of of Green Day, Lincoln Park, etc… Though I suppose I haven’t heard Du Hast in ages either…
