New Zealand was an incredibly emotional journey for me.
I put pressure on myself before we even arrived. It’s my homeland, and I’m truly proud of it. I had to fight my emotions and voices in my head from the start to the finish of the challenge. I was exhausted from the emotional stress! I think we all were.
My secret to winning the weapons challenge was my no-lose attitude. There was no way I could lose in front of my people. I positively wanted to do not only myself but my people proud. I channeled the warrior in me to win this challenge. It wasn’t so much about strength and physical power as mental and spiritual focus. Quick, precise strikes were the way to go in this challenge.

What a great episode! I was 100% invested in this journey the minute it started, and was completely in awe of the power and beauty of the Karanga that was given upon meeting! The chefs all did an amazing job in the challenges and most especially with maintaining focus during the weather change. I was freezing just watching them! My favorite part? The gift of a carving scholarship…what an amazing tribute to the awesome Maori people! What a way to honor such a rich and vibrant culture! Well done!! This show is so much more than a cooking show. THANK YOU BBC America for stepping outside the box on this one!
