Digging the Yam Dig!

I’m so psyched I won the yam dig challenge in Dominica! I would compare it to the story of “The Tortoise and the Hare.” I knew my competition was physically stronger than I am, so I took time to strategize my approach, and ended up in the lead.  There was a bit of luck involved, too!

I had never been to Dominica before, so I tried my best to not be influenced by anything I read prior to the trip. I just wanted to experience the country as it came. The local Kalinago people live a simple life that revolves around necessities like food and shelter. As long as they had what they needed all else was okay.  I felt myself relaxing just being there. It was beautiful and uncomplicated, just like the stories my father told me about the village life he lived in Greece.

I watched the filming of the repelling down the red rocks and the beach interviews on the golden sand. I had an opportunity to meet the chefs and crew. It was a wonderful experience and am so glad they enjoyed the beauty of the Island. I love your show, so it was a pleasure to have you all here exploring the adventures of life in Dominica.
