I'm not an expat, but one of my closest friends is a doctoral student from London. Boise's population is about 3% that of London's so you can imagine there's a lot that she misses (like marmite, for some reason!). The advice on this blog is good, it just isn't applicable to small cities! The closest consulate is about a 12-hour drive in good weather months. The closest Nordstrom's is 6 hours!
So we recommend your closest college or university, even small private ones. Nearly every school has an international student office and/or an exchange program, and often the school's events are the most culture available and so draw a varied audience. And the British students aren't necessarily "kids." I won't say exactly how old she is, but my friend is a lot closer to 50 than 20!
