A gay man is found beaten to death and his two-year-old adopted son is missing. The clock is ticking for Sam and Ronnie as they go in search of the boy. Eventually the boy’s biological mother Ruth, a recovering drug addict, reveals that he is with his biological father Neil—a homophobic and violent man.
When the Crown Prosecution puts both Ruth and Neil on trial in a case of joint murder, Kate is appalled and disagrees with Ruth’s inclusion. But to Kate’s own surprise, she manages to discover the truth when she looks into her own past.
