Elizabeth Haverford fixes her hair after a night with Detective Corcoran.

Elizabeth lies to Corcoran, telling him that Annie is safe with a respectable family in San Francisco.

Elizabeth's horrified when she learns that John Reilly is not Annie's father - he's her husband.

Just wait until Corcoran finds out where Annie really is...

Robert Morehouse receives a troubling telegram... "Confederate agents cross the border from Canada and raided the town of Saint Albans, Vermont, robbing banks, burning buildings, one man is dead."

Andrew O'Brien's wife Sybil is worried about a possible Confederate threat on New York City and wonders if it's time to head out to Kentucky.

Elizabeth rushes to find Annie, but is intercepted by an armed John Reilly. "You ain't on Fifth Avenue now," he warns Elizabeth.

Elizabeth leaves John Reilly's farm empty handed, realizing she can do nothing to save Annie now.

Mister Kennedy, a representative of the New Coalition Government in Canada, discusses business opportunities with Norbert and his associates. Kennedy's peculiar accent strikes Robert's curiosity.

Maguire surprises Mary with tickets to Barnum's, only to discover she's been badly beaten. Mary refuses to discuss the incident.

Francis learns that Mary Lockwood was beaten because she's been blackmailing all the women who paid her sister, Madame Grindle, for abortions.

Elizabeth realizes she must tell Kevin where Annie is, and begs Robert Morehouse to deliver the message.

Morehouse advises Elizabeth to tell Kevin the truth herself. "Corky is like a mad dog," Robert warns. "The longer he chews on the bone, the sharper his teeth get."

Captain Sullivan will neither confirm nor deny the existence of a secret telegram warning of the destruction of New York.

Sara's horrified to learn that white men have been passing out postcards of brutal killings, warning black men and women to leave Manhattan.

Eva reads a cocktail recipe to a new bartender at Pompadou's Bordello.

Robert Morehouse applauds Eva for her work transforming Pompadou's Bordello. "Bringing a little gravitas to our palace of pleasure," he says, toasting the Madam.

Morehouse gets Kennedy drunk and tries to determine if he's truly from Canada, or a Southern supporter.

Kennedy drops the fake accent and reveals he was held in a Union prison. He vows if Lincoln wins the election, New York will burn.

Morehouse is skeptical. "New York's burned before," he tells Kennedy. "She always comes back."

Kennedy takes out clear liquid, and pours it on one of Morehouse's carriages. A flame catches...without a match.

"I'll cost," Kennedy tells Morehouse, but soon he'll have enough of the deadly liquid to "burn Manhattan from the Bowery to Washington Square."

"This ain't Bayou moonshine," Kennedy warns Morehouse.

A furious Corcoran goes to confront Elizabeth.

"You lied to me. To ME!" Kevin screams at Elizabeth, waving his knife at her.

"If anything happens to [Annie], I will cut you," Kevin says, pressing his knife against Elizabeth's throat. "Right across your voice box. And you can scream, but no one's going to hear you. You understand me?"

A tearful Elizabeth stands helplessly while Corcoran screams at her, his blade grazing her neck.

The lesson? Don't ever lie to a detective. Especially THIS detective.

After confronting Elizabeth, Corcoran stops by Eva's Paradise.

"[Elizabeth] lied to me," Kevin tells Eva. "Made me believe her. She handed Annie over like a piece of meat, bought and sold, traded and...traded and sold."
