John Blackie
Designing for film and television for over 30 years, John Blackie has accumulated an impressive list of credits including films such as "Tucker & Dales vs. Evil," "Cowboys Don’t Cry," "The Road To Saddle River," and "Solitaire." Prior to Blackie’s work recreating 1864 New York City for "Copper," his experience in period design includes films such as "The Last Rites of Ransom Pride," "The War Between Us," and "Bye Bye Blues," for which Blackie received a 1990 Genie nomination.
In 2008, Blackie was again recognized by the industry with a Gemini nomination for "Mayerthorpe," and in 2003 he garnered two Gemini nominations for "Mutant X" and "Agent of Influence." Blackie’s other series credits include "Hell On Wheels," "MythQuest," "Honey I Shrunk The Kids," "Lonesome Dove" and "Ray Bradbury Theatre," to name a select few. Blackie received his first Gemini nomination in 1994 for his work on the television movie "The Diviners." His other television movies include "A Friend of the Family," "Dawn Anna," "Crazy Canucks," "The Investigation," and "The Song Spinner." Born and raised in Alberta, Canada, Blackie trained at the Alberta College of Art and Design and got his start at Access Television. Blackie still calls Alberta home.
