Sergeant Mike Swift is a solid, family man and a veteran soldier who is transformed by his experience in Iraq. While on his tour of duty, he finds his loyalties divided when he meets and falls in love with an Iraqi doctor, Aliya. He returns home to find his marriage unraveling and his life utterly changed. A broken man, his affair with Aliya draws him back to Iraq.

Actor James Nesbitt received a 2008 Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Miniseries for his role in the BBC AMERICA co-production of Jekyll. Previously, Nesbitt has had starring roles on the dramedy Cold Feet and the police drama Murphy's Law.

Danny (Stephen Graham)
Corporal Danny Peterson
(Played by Stephen Graham)

Corporal Danny Peterson is a seemingly happy-go-lucky soldier with little to keep him in the UK. Dreams of money and power draw him into the murky world of the private contractors in Iraq. However, Danny's blatant exploitation of the war-torn country's tense situation leads to even more corruption and chaos.

Graham is one of the most in-demand actors of today. His bravura performance as Combo in the acclaimed movie This Is England landed him a raft of roles in both the UK and the U.S. He appeared alongside Johnny Depp in Public Enemies, in which he plays the 1930s gangster Baby Face Nelson, and he will be seen next year with Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman in Season of the Witch.

Hibbs (Warren Brown)
Lance Corporal Lee Hibbs
(Played by Warren Brown)

Lance Corporal Lee Hibbs sustains a minor injury while stationed in Iraq, leading to a medical discharge that sends him back home. However, he returns to Basra because he passionately believes in the mission to rebuild the country and help the Iraqi people—and that mission is nowhere near accomplished.

Actor Warren Brown played psychopath Andy Holt on the UK soap Hollyoaks in 2005 and has guest-starred on episodes of Shameless and the miniseries Dead Set. Before becoming an actor in his mid-twenties, he was a world champion Thai boxer.
