BBCAMERICA.COM: You say that you share a similar sense of humor. Rumor has it that John Barrowman has quite the bawdy sense of humor. How do you deal with that?

CAROLE: Well, I have to say mine is much more refined. Much more refined. Although, if you've read Anything Goes, our family does kind have a thing for mooning and showing their bums. It doesn't much matter if you're a boy or a girl. I think "bawdy" and the punning of "body" would be appropriate. I think we can both be pretty sarcastic and funny and ironic in that way. We can also appreciate good slapsticky kind of humor stuff too. One of the stories that we tell in the book is that John has a thing about people touching his neck and his face. In fact most of us in my family do. From when we were very young, one of the ways that John could always just annoy me or get back at me would be to just jump on me and lick my neck. Of course, he was my little brother and I couldn't hurt him too bad. He wasn't allowed to hit girls, obviously, so that was his way of going after me when we were kids. When I had kids, guess what the first thing Uncle John taught my toddlers to do? It usually doesn't fail when the family gets together, even now, I know that at some point in the family gathering, John will pin me, and my children will lick my neck. It's inevitable. It sounds pretty gross, and a little creepy, I know.

BBCAMERICA.COM: Do you also share his knack for music?

CAROLE: I love my iPod. (laughs) I am pretty much tone deaf. He definitely got the musical gene from the family, there is no doubt about it. My mother is a beautiful singer. She has a beautiful voice. My dad, not so much. I think the performing gene, we've decided, because we've been asked this question a lot, I think it's got to be something inherent in our family and it has manifested itself in interesting ways. Of course John is the quintessential entertainer. I spent 25 years getting in front of students, and if you can't entertain a little while, you teach, gosh, it's a slog. So I think that all of us in some way have been drawn to these sort of professions that allow us to be a little more out there.

BBCAMERICA.COM: Thanks so much for chatting with us, Carole!

CAROLE: You're welcome!
