BBCAMERICA.COM: What sides of Jack do we see in the new comic?

CAROLE: I hope and I think John would agree with this, that you see a little bit of guilt that Jack has for something that he's done in the context of the comic. I think you see his compassion. This is a little kind of different side of his compassion and again as much as you can see in a comic. I think we would like to do something a little more with some of those aspects of his character. It's certainly an original story, it's exciting. There are many allusions to Moby Dick in the whole piece, which I had a lot of fun with.

Captain Jack and the Tale of the Selkie

BBCAMERICA.COM: Could you tell us about your relationship [with John] growing up and how you guys managed to stay so close over years and work together?

CAROLE: I think one of the reasons we managed to stay so close is because I am such a damn good big sister. Little brothers need to be kept line by their big sisters. Who doesn't need a second mother in their life? We've always been close, even though I was in university and he was in high school, so there were times when we didn't spend that much time together. We have similar sensibilities, similar senses of humor. We appreciate a lot of the same things in family, the arts, and the world in general, and we worked at maintaining our relationship. Not that it's like a chore. Family is very important to John, as it is to me. It makes sense. It was John's opportunity to spread some of his success and help me meet some of my dreams. I'm lucky that he's been very generous that way, and I'm thrilled to be doing the things that I am doing, which I wouldn't be able to do if he hadn't been willing to share some of that. It also means that when he's working on a project, like this comic book, he's got someone who has his back and someone who really trusts him and trusts the ideas that he's sharing. He doesn't have to worry about being second guessed in a way that might not be appropriate. He and I can say things back and forth to each other that, if there wasn't the sibling relationship, things might not be hashed out the same way. I can yell at him, he can ignore me. The usual sister/brother thing.
