Week 5 Tips

It's one of the most essential services a hotel can offer, but why do so many establishments do room service poorly? Here's what guests should receive:

24/7 service should be available: After all, most people don't spend their daylight hours in their hotel room. Room service should be available all at times, especially in those early morning hours when you're simply craving a burger. Special express services should be provided for breakfast.

There should be a time estimate for delivery: You should be given a specific time for the delivery of your services, usually within a half-hour of your call, and your food should arrive within five minutes of that scheduled time. If items will arrive late or for some reason aren't available, the operator should call the guest.

Food quality should be of utmost quality: Room service entrées should be of equal quality to food served in the hotel's restaurant. Hot foods should remain hot, and cold foods should remain cold. Presentation should be elegant, and proper silverware and linens should be provided. And the attendant should ask where the trays or tables should be placed, uncover your food, and ask to pour your beverage. After the guest has finished, he or she should able to call room service to have the trays and dishes promptly removed.
