Lifestyle journalist Kate Spicer is almost 40, single and – like many women - not 100% happy with her appearance. Having previously tested the extremes of dieting in Super Skinny Me, she’s now moved on to the beauty industry and what it offers to stop the aging process.

Her journey takes her from a wallet-busting, nightingale-poo facemask and bull semen hair treatment in the U.K., to the latest Fraxel laser technology and stem cell fat transfer procedure in Los Angeles. She quickly realizes how easy it is to be sucked into the world of cosmetic improvement and discovers that downsides can include depression.

With a quick succession of painful injections and laser treatment that leaves her face swollen and red, will Kate be willing to just settle for the one-off quick fix?
