Embarking on an emotional rollercoaster, nine couples compete for one restaurant and the backing of a world-renowned chef in BBC America's all new U.S. premiere series, Last Restaurant Standing. Raymond Blanc, the award-winning owner of a two Michelin-star restaurant, gives just one couple the chance to live their culinary dream. It seems so simple. Many of us can cook. We've all been to restaurants. We all think we know what people like to eat. But this new show is an uncompromising and entertaining insight into the real world of restaurant management. Over 15 episodes, Raymond puts nine couples through their paces to see if they have what it takes to run their own eatery. Starting out with little or no professional cooking experience, each couple must take over an empty restaurant, make it their own, and open it to the public within a week. Every decision, every argument, every mistake they make is caught on camera. The couples are working and living together 24 hours-a-day, under enormous pressure - and only one will succeed. Each week the restaurants are visited by a panel of 'inspectors' - Lee Cash, Sarah Willingham, and John Lederer - and the three lowest-rated restaurants are put to the test in a challenge. The restaurant which fails the task will be shut down. At the end of each season, the winning team opens their own brand new restaurant, with the financial and personal backing of the French-born restaurateur. Raymond said, "The couples taking part are very brave. They have to leave their families or change the schooling of their children. It is a life-changing decision to take part in this program - it is not just a game. They are making many sacrifices...." The nine competing couples are: Martin, a prison caterer, and his fiance Emma who works in a bingo hall. Jeremy, a chef in the Marines, and his wife Jane. Lloyd and Adwoa, an engaged couple who run market stalls selling food. Jazz drummer Sam and his wife Jacqui, an actress and waitress. Eddie and his older brother Michael, a communications consultant. Advertising copywriter Grant and his wife Laura. Sisters and children's entertainers, Jess and Laura. Nicola, a home cook and successful businesswoman, and her son Tom. Mature university student Chris and his partner Jade. Airs Tuesdays at 9 pm et/pt. |
