New Order Has Not Split, Say Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris

Oh, drama: back in May, New Order bassist Peter Hook announced that the band had broken up. Now, it appears he was simply running off at the mouth. Singer/guitarist Bernard Sumner and drummer Stephen Morris say that the band is still together and will continue without Hook. They released this joint statement via XFM:
After 30 years in a band together we are very disappointed that Hooky has decided to go to the press and announce unilaterally that New Order have split up. We would have hoped that he could have approached us personally first. He does not speak for all the band, therefore we can only assume he no longer wants to be a part of New Order.

Whatever happens musically or otherwise, New Order have NOT split up, they continue to exist.

New Order will be making no further comment about this matter.
Well, that's that, I suppose. Obviously, Hook's defection indicates that there was rift growing in the band for quite some time. I'm just glad that the outfit will continue, as 2005's Waiting For the Siren's Call showed a band still at the height of its powers.

To celebrate the resurrection of New Order, here's the video to one of their best songs, "True Faith." I'm totally going to be one of those bouncy people for Halloween.

In other news:

  • Sharon Osbourne's father, music mogul Don Arden, has died at 81 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Arden had managed Black Sabbath, but when Ozzy Osbourne went solo, Sharon decided she wanted to manage her husband's career. Arden was outraged, and father and daughter didn't speak for 20 years. They reconciled in 2002. (BBC)

  • Kylie Minogue is deciding between two cover versions for her comeback single: it'll be either Culture Club's "Victims" or Roxy Music's "Love Is the Drug." I vote for the Culture Club song. (Gigwise)

  • New host Dermot O'Leary previews the upcoming season of X-Factor in today's Metro and says Dannii Minogue is working out well as a judge: "I wondered how she'd fit in, as Louis [Walsh] and Simon [Cowell] and Sharon [Osbourne] all know each other already, but she's doing a great job. She won't say things just to agree with people. She's her own woman."
