Pop Star Calvin Harris Pulls a Kanye on X Factor

Wearing a pineapple on his head (!), Scottish pop star Calvin Harris invaded the X Factor stage Saturday night during John and Edward's performance of Queen's "Under Pressure." Calvin probably intended the moment to be a cross between Kanye West's ambush of Taylor Swift and Jarvis Cocker's booty-shaking during Michael Jackson's BRIT Awards performance back in 1996, but his surprise X Factor appearance is literally a blip on the screen at 2:22 in this clip. Tsk tsk. Ain't it a shame when you go through all that trouble to make a fool of yourself, and the cameramen don't even bother to get the shot?

Harris explained his behavior today, and The Daily Record has the quote:

Speaking on The Chris Moyles Show this morning, Harris said: "I was just inspired to make a mockery of the show. Because it is a music competition, it is a joke and I think it should be treated as such, so when people were saying 'John and Edward, maybe they deserve to stay in this week', I was like 'are you watching what I'm watching?'

"It's terrible, it's terrible... For the greater good of the nation I wanted to go out there and make an idiot of myself and sort of just bring the whole show into another kind of area in which it's treated as kind of a joke."

An insider implies that Harris has been banned for life from Simon Cowell's biggest UK "talent" show: "Calvin will not be appearing on X Factor ever again."

Is British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor a megastar now? One could argue that the special effects were the star of Roland Emmerich's latest disaster flick, 2012, but Ejiofor had a huge role in the movie, which grossed over $65 million in ticket sales this past weekend. I haven't seen 2012 yet, so I don't know if Ejiofor makes it out alive, but as the new Techland blog reports, Emmerich has already signed on as executive producer for a 2013 "TV concept." Could that mean Ejiofor will hit the small screen? Hey, it's a steady paycheck, folks. And he sure as hell would do a better job fronting a major TV series than his poor fellow Brit, Joseph Fiennes (FlashForward).

Shocker: Amy Winehouse's in the hospital, due to "mixing medications." (NME)

The real life "Belle de Jour" - the inspiration behind Doctor Who star Billie Piper's Secret Diary of a Call Girl - has outed herself. She is 34-year-old Dr. Brooke Magnanti, a scientist who "worked as a £300 an hour prostitute" to pay her rent in London while doing her phD. (Guardian)
