Upcoming Doctor Who Specials To Get "U.S. Setting" and "U.S. Assistant"?

  • Rumor: SyFy Portal says that News of the World says that an unnamed BBC source says that two of the three Doctor Who specials will be filmed right here in the U.S. of A. Not only that, but the Timelord will allegedly get a "U.S. assistant." "Two specials in America, with a U.S. setting and U.S. assistant, will take it to another level," the alleged BBC source told News of the World. "David Tennant is already gaining a huge following and this will make him really hot property." SyFy Portal surmises this makes good economic sense for the BBC: "The British pound is trading strong against the American dollar, which means doing business - including filming - is much cheaper to do in the United States than it is in England." Not so fast, kiddo: the dollar is actually strengthening against the pound, with the conversion rate hitting a 25-month high this past Monday. Anyway, keep an eye for any official word from the BBC; perhaps you Wholigans won't have to trek all the way across the Atlantic to stalk David Tennant.

  • Why does Hugh Grant always seem to turn up on ex Elizabeth Hurley's vacations with her husband? (Daily Mail)

  • The New York Press' Armond White, the legendarily maverick film critic, says Jason Statham "has the best track record of any contemporary movie actor....None of today's media favorites (Clooney, Pitt, Depp, Damon) can list so many films as good as Transporter, Cellular, Transporter 2, London, Revolver, Crank, War, and Death Race."

  • Mary-Kate Olsen kissed Sir Ben Kingsley "quite happily" during filming of The Wackness. (Entertainmentwise)

  • Jack Osbourne plans a documentary on his father Ozzy to repair the damage MTV's The Osbournes did to Ozzy's image: "I think The Osbournes, to a degree, tarnished the public's perception of my dad as a bit of a senile, funny, bumbling guy. My dad can be that guy, but it's not him. I think that almost discredited who he is as an artist." (BBC)

  • Kelly Osbourne didn't get that black eye she's been sporting lately from some catfight. Her spokesman says that Kelly went to "get a glass from a cupboard in her kitchen and the whole piece of furniture fell off the wall on top of her, cutting her temple and hitting her in the left eye." That's pretty shoddy carpentry for someone with all that money. Perhaps instead of a documentary for his father, Jack should spring for a new cabinet for his sis. (Daily Mail)

There will be no Project Catwalk - a UK version of Project Runway - which was to be hosted by Kelly Osbourne. It's really not her week, is it? (Guardian)

  • How random: freaky lookalikes Michael Jackson and David Gest have made an album out of the works of Scottish poet Robert Burns. I'm more shocked that these twin monstrosities have actually been in the same room together. (Telegraph)

News of the World? Are there going to be real aliens in it, too? Geez. SyFyPortal is increasingly off the rails in what it chooses to "report."
