Lynne Warner
U.S. Secretary of Defense

Secretary of Defense Lynne Warner (played by Sharon Gless)
Lynne Warner is the hard-as-nails U.S. Secretary of Defense who, due to her sheer force of personality and her personal history, more or less runs the country. Deeply patriotic, she's devoted to the ideals of sacrifice and service. A congresswoman since 1978, she later resigned to serve as CEO of Armitage International. The President invited her back into government as Secretary of Defense. She made the ultimate sacrifice when she lost her only son Thomas in Afghanistan, where he was serving as a Ranger. Lynne's dignity and pride after her son's death helped win the President re-election with majorities in both chambers of Congress. She's a firm believer in the righteousness of the American way of life, which she's keen to export to the undemocratic nations around the world. In her opinion, the UK government lacks balls, especially when it comes to the issue of terrorism. However, she sees British Ambassador Mark Brydon as a smart and formidable opponent and, at times, an ally.
Gless is beloved by American TV audience for her role as Detective Sergeant Christine Cagney on the series, Cagney & Lacey, for which she won two Emmys and a Golden Globe. She also starred in the American version of the UK series, Queer As Folk, as PFLAG mom Debbie Novotny.
