Patrick McGoohan stars in a taut psycho-thriller about a man known only as
Number Six.
Imagine resigning from your position as a secret agent, returning home to pack
for a vacation and being gassed and abducted. When you wake up, you are in the surreal world of "The Village"âa
place where nothing is as it seems and everybody knows too much. This is the world of The Prisoner.
Disoriented and confused, Number Six (Patrick McGoohan) tries to figure out
where he is. But the only maps he can find show just the Village and nothing beyond the sea and mountains that
surround it. Escape seems impossible, but he's determined to try.
Number Six is summoned to the Green Dome and meets a man known as Number Two,
who explains that they know all about his life and want to know why he resigned from his position. Number Six
refuses to cooperate and is later shown around the Village. He receives a chilling demonstration of what happens
to people who try to leave when a giant white sphere (named Rover) materializes in the village square and
suffocates a man who starts to run away.
Unable to escape or assert his individuality, Number Six attempts to track down
the real identity of his captors and the elusive Number One. But he always comes up against a wall of silence
from the other inhabitants of The Village. There is no escape from a place where everyone is a number and no one
can be trusted.
