Every Christmas is spent at Sandringham House in Norfolk, which has been the private home of four generations of sovereigns since 1862.
Bought in 1862 for The Prince of Wales (later Edward VII), the original Georgian house was expanded to accommodate his growing family.
The Queen's father, King George VI, died at Sandringham, and since then it is where Queen Elizabeth privately spends the anniversary of his death and her Accession.
Sandringham is a commercial estate, run by the Land Agent. Over half of the Estate is let to farm tenants, the remainder is either farmed or forested (the Estate has its own sawmill). The estate also has a country park that is open to the public.
