Steve is attempting to break up with Jane, but she won't accept it. In the same bar, Patrick is trying
to dump Susan, but he is humiliated to learn that Susan never thought they were even dating. During Steve
and Jane's short-term and physical reconciliation in the ladies' toilet, Steve stumbles around the bathroon
to get a condom and lands at Susan's feet. They recognize each other from a party at her office, which
Steve attended with his best friend Jeff (Susan's workmate). Neglecting to tell her that his "unflushable"
girlfriend is locked in the cubicle, Steve asks Susan out.
On Steve and Susan's first date, both their best friends and exes find a reason to tag along: Jeff is
terrified they may talk about his previous premature experience with Susan; Jane is still operating under
the illusion that she is Steve's girlfriend; Patrick and Sally, Susan's best friend, are on a rebound date.
Somehow they all trick Susan into showing them one of her breasts, and then they sit down to dinner.
Susan asks Steve to her flat for dinner on their first solo date. Both Steve and Susan's camps discuss whether or not this invitation implies just cooking or cooking with sex. Jeff gives Steve some tips on foreplay and a heavy-handed warning about entering the dreaded Sock Gap. He also introduces the mystery of Susan's remote controls...
Meanwhile, Susan explains to Sally exactly what she meant by calling her ex, Patrick, a "donkey," and it wasn't a commentary on his intellect or his political affiliation. Although Sally has sworn to never have sex with a Tory, she can't help but accept his invitation to what she hopes will be a very large Motor Show.
Back at Susan's, Steve can't get the remotes to work and discovers Susan's propensity for buying value packs of batteries. But why do all her batteries run out so quickly?
When her aunt dies, Jane insists that Steve escort her to the funeral AND pretend to be her boyfriend. Understandably, Susan won't let Steve go unless she comes too, so she brings Patrick as her date. Patrick brings Sally, and Jeff tags along as he's the only one who actually knew the dead aunt. All is well and good until the six fall into the Giggle Loop during the moment of silence.
Meanwhile, Jeff fights interview anxiety by imagining everyone naked. This backfires when he walks confidently into his interview, only to be confronted by his reflection in a mirror - naked.
Steve panics when he suspects that Susan has found one of his porn videos. In a moment of unbearably embarrassing silence, he tells her he loves her. This admission sends Jane back into therapy with her ex-therapist Jill.
Meanwhile, Susan hosts a dinner party. Jane can't face the dinner alone so she forces the reluctant Jill to go with her. Everyone suspects Jill is Jane's new lesbian girlfriend, and Susan takes the opportunity to force Steve to justify his passion for the art film she found in his VCR, Lesbian Spank Inferno. In his impassioned defense of the male sex, Steve accidentally tells Susan that he really does love her.
The lads can't take their eyes of a beautiful stranger in their local bar, and she can't take her eyes off Jeff. With plenty of prodding Jeff attempts to chat her up, only to discover that she (fortunately) doesn't speak a word of English. Her flat-chested interpreter, Alice, tells Jeff she's Israeli, then whisks her away.
The girl returns the next day and Jeff attempts to find a way to communicate with the foreign beauty, but without luck. He thinks her name is Shadayim, and she thinks he collects women's ears in a bucket. Poor Jeff leaves her thinking that they set up a date to see each other the next day, but she thinks he wants to meet Alice. Hilarity ensues.
When Jane goes round to Patrick's flat unannounced to heal their 'spiritual divide', she discovers that he has a cupboard full of homemade videos, all bearing the names of women including one called Susan. Word quickly gets round, and Susan visits Patrick to ask him to keep his video of her private.
But she's too late: Steve, Jeff, and Sally are already watching it. Even more appalling, Susan discovers Patrick has taped over her, and no one has noticed!
