Freema Agyeman

(Martha Jones)

After a chance meeting and fleeting kiss with the Doctor, Martha Jones became his Season 3 companion. They never became an item, much to Martha's dismay.

Born in London to Ghanaian and Iranian parents, Freema made her TV acting debut in a revamped version of the classic soap opera Crossroads, for which she received a British Soap Awards Best Newcomer nomination in 2003. Roles in Casualty, The Bill, and Silent Witness followed before the call to Cardiff for Doctor Who. Freema previously appeared in Doctor Who as Torchwood operative Adeola in "Army of Ghosts" (Episode 12 of Series 2) and was spotted on the set by Russell T. Davies, who called her back to audition for the role of Martha. She is currently starring in Law & Order: London, the UK version of the long-running U.S. TV drama that tells the stories of two separate yet equally important groups: the police, who investigate crime, and the attorneys, who prosecute the offenders.
