Series 2, Episode 5

It's Red Nose Day, and David is giddy with anticipation. Wackiness is bound to ensue: Keith has donned an Ali G outfit, Gareth is hopping instead of walking, and Dawn is selling kisses for a quid.

On a serious note, David reminds us that they are helping Comic Relief, the originators of Red Nose Day, raise money for starving people, "If I make people laugh while I'm saving lives, sue me."

Getting into the spirit of the day, Jennifer announces a "special surprise" for  a dance routine by Neil and Rachel, dressed as characters from "Saturday Night Fever." They put on a show that is enjoyed by all.

Except David. If they wanted dancing, they should have come to him. His dancing is more modern, sort of a fusion between Flashdance and MC Hammer. Rachel challenges him to show off his moves. And show them off he does.

Soon after, David finds Jennifer and Neil waiting in his office. Neil asks for a report David has supposedly been working on for days, but the only piece of paper on David's desk is a rough proposal for a new quiz show "devised and hosted by David Brent."

Neil gives David a verbal warning: three strikes and he's out, and things have to improve. David wants all three now. He would like to see Neil run this place; he'd have a mutiny on his hands.

In the meantime, Tim decides to do what he can for charity. He gives Dawn a quid, and she insists on giving him a kiss. Afterward, Tim dashes back to his desk.

Soon after Neil and Jennifer pop back round for another quick word with David, but he needs them to make it quick. He's just heading out for his photo shoot with the Slough Gazette.

Neil makes it quick. He and Jennifer would like to offer David a redundancy (lay off) package. Well, they aren't actually offering it to him. They're telling him he's got to take it.

David is gutted. Good timing, telling him on the day of laughter. But this is the best thing that's happened to him, really, although he doesn't have time to talk. He's got laughter to give, money to raise, and mouths to feed.
