This episode not only celebrates Tim's 30th birthday, but also the 7th Annual Wernham Hogg Quiz Night.
While David and Chris Finch gear up for their 7th straight quiz win as "The Dead Parrots," David finds time to reassure Tim that even though he hit the "big 3-0," things could be worse. Tim could still be living with his parents...which he does. "Cherish them," David says and confides that his father is not exactly dead, but "as good as."
By and by, Dawn and Tim interrupt the Quiz Master, Gareth, while he is compiling the evening's questions. Tim and Dawn just want to find out if he, as a military man, could give a man a lethal blow if the man was coming really hard.
It seems the last time Gareth was Quiz Master, some controversies over Quiz Mastering nearly cost The Dead Parrots their win. David relives the fateful evening in which Gareth had the incorrect answer to the question "What type of alien is Mr. Spock?" Spock is not a full Vulcan as Gareth claimed, but half-Vulcan and half-human. To that Gareth says now what he said then, "Look at his ears."
Once the Quiz is underway, tensions rise between The Dead Parrots (David and Finchy) and The Tits (Tim and Ricky). The two teams argue over whether or not a spider is an insect or an arachnid, which prompts Finchy to advise Ricky "to spend a few terms at the University of Life."
The Quiz ends with The Dead Parrots and The Tits in a dead heat, so Gareth calls a tie-breaker. Finch and Ricky square off. While Finch argues with Gareth over the rules, Ricky calls out the correct answer.
Later at the pub, Finch calls David "a waste of bloody space" for saying Fray Bentos was the leader of Cuba. As for losing to The Tits, Finch claims he can list fifty things he could beat Tim and Ricky at...like throwing. So, The Dead Parrots decide what the "real quiz" is: Finchy must throw something over the building. Ricky calls them both "sad little men," but Gareth points out, "he's thrown a kettle over a pub, what have you done?"
Once they agree to throw one of Tim's shoes over the building, Finch executes the task like "a wonder horse." The Dead Parrots are named champions, and Ricky and Tim have learned a valuable lesson: "Respect your elders and do not f*** with the big boys."
