Series 1, Episode 1

Meet David Brent, Regional Manager of Wernham Hogg's Slough Branch and self-described borderline comic genius.

David takes us around the office and introduces us to Dawn Tinsley, the receptionist. While David banters about Dawn's crack, she goes a bit too far when she mentions David's drinking habits.

Next we meet Gareth Keenan, Team Leader, and Tim Canterbury, Sales Rep, just as Gareth brags to Tim about the night before: "Boss and Team Leader in drunken night out shock horror." David concurs, "Guilty as charged."

Although David isn't afraid of Jennifer Taylor Clark from Head Office (a.k.a. Camilla Parker Bowles), his cool exterior belies his nervousness when she schedules a meeting to share some bad news: the Board can't justify maintaining both the Slough and Swindon Branch. One office will be down-sized, and there will be redundancies. David vows to keep his office open.

A new temp, Ricky, arrives, and David personally shows him around...to the Accounts Department, the recycling bin, the singing fish, Gareth and Tim.

In the middle of the introductions, Gareth discovers that Tim put his stapler in a jelly (Jell-O mold) again. Gareth doesn't trust the way it moves, but worst of all is the damage to company property!

During Dawn's lunch break, David confides to her he's had a bit of a scare: a lump on his testicles. Meanwhile, Gareth is having trouble with his calculator, and Tim solves Gareth's territorial problems when he builds a wall of company files.

The rumors have come to a head, so David calls a meeting to reassure his staff that he will save their jobs. Can he promise that? On his mother's grave.

Before David lets Ricky leave for the day, he enlists his help to play a final practical joke on Dawn. This time, the Brentmeister General himself goes too far.
