Steve McQueen, no, not the late great screen actor but the Turner Prize winning artist of British fame, has put together a compelling film which looks back at IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands. The film won the Camera D'Or at the Cannes in May, and it should be released later this year. It's a picture that has divided critics, some see it as high art - others as pretentious nonsense - and it won't please everyone for reasons to do with politics. But it's worth watching even if it's just to see actor Michael Fassbender for his excellent portrayal of Sands -- it is raw and very convincing. Anyway, Fassbender seems assured of a high profile future because it's being reported that he's slated to play Heathcliff in a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
