Robert Downey Jr - A Superhero

Robert Downey Jr. can justifiably bask in the glory of box office success and critical acclaim - his portrayal of Iron Man almost broke the record for a superhero debut at the US box office - and he's been winning deservedly positive reviews. The origins of the superhero go back to the days of the Cold War in the 1960s when he was a comic book figure cast as an anti-communist hero. Now Iron Man's alter ego Tony Stark faces a more topical villain - an unscrupulous American weapons manufacturer - it's a family concern he's been a part of but he no longer approves of its mission. Downey has been selling Iron Man as a film that will resonate partly because science has made this superhero with a suit of armor almost a real life possibility - that is if you have a vivid imagination! More interestingly many believe Iron Man's story in the film resonates with Downey's at times troubled personal life - an issue the actor was quite willing to discuss.
