A desperately-needed supply of water has been located on a distant moon but now Galactica is faced with a new problem— finding the manpower for the labor-intensive job of extracting it. Lee goes to the prison ship Astral Queen to try and persuade the prisoners to help pump the water. However, while he’s aboard, the prisoners take control of their ship, and Lee is taken hostage by their leader, the notorious revolutionary Tom Zarek. (Zarek is portrayed by Richard Hatch, who played Captain Apollo in the 1978 Battlestar series.)
Galactica’s chief mechanic Tyrol is firm, fair and often so strongly loyal that he tends to become recklessly irrational when someone close to him is in danger.
After the initial Cylon attack, Roslin was thrown into the role of President of the Twelve Colonies while simultaneously struggling with cancer and discovering her place as spiritual leader.
