Christian Cawley – Best of ‘Doctor Who’ 50th Anniversary Ballot

Christian Cawley
I’m the founder and editor of www.kasterborous.com, which launched on January 1, 2005. A fan since childhood (I’m supposed to be 37), I have early memories of the Graham Williams era.

Favorite monster, villain or creature
1. The Master
The Master is the Doctor’s equal and opposite, and I love to watch him. Even when his plans are less than sophisticated the fact that the two characters have so much shared history on screen and off informs the narrative and adds something to the performance of both actors, whichever Doctor and Master you happen to be watching.

I’m also intrigued by his history pre-2005, in particular his time line concerning “The Deadly Assassin” and “The Keeper of Traken” as well as the TV movie.
2. Davros
3. The Daleks
4. The Cybermen
5. Ice Warriors

Favorite episodes
1. The Seeds of Doom
Where do you start? It’s the most un-Doctor Who serial from the show, feels more like The Avengers but it moves at pace, has outside broadcast video to maintain the feel (rather than the jarring switch to 16mm for location work) and brilliant dialogue throughout. Harrison Chase is a superb villain, Tom Baker is on top form and the Doctor and Sarah are up against it throughout.

Brilliant!
2. Inferno
3. Human Nature
4. Blink
5. The Empty Child
