Idris Elba has revealed that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and has sent out a video message.

The Luther actor told fans on Twitter that he got tested after learning on Friday that he’d been exposed to someone with the novel strain of Coronavirus. He also reassured us that he’s in good spirits following the diagnosis, saying: “I feel OK [and] I have no symptoms so far.”

Elba is joined by wife Sabrina Dhowre in a video message in which he urged folks to do all they can to combat the virus, saying: “This is serious. Now is the time to really think about social distancing, washing your hands.”

“Transparency is probably the best thing for this right now,” he added. “If you’re feeling ill, or you feel like you should be tested, or if you’ve been exposed, do something about it.”

You can watch his full video message below.

Elba isn’t the first high-profile actor to reveal he has tested positive for COVID-19. Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson revealed last week that they are self-isolating after learning they have contracted the virus. They’ve been updating fans on their progress on Twitter.

Meanwhile, the BBC confirmed yesterday that filming has been halted on the new seasons of Line of Duty and Peaky Blinders in the wake of the global Coronavirus pandemic.
