You may know Jason Isaacs from the Harry Potter movies as Lucius Malfoy. Or, in more recent projects like the sci-fi series The OA (2016-2019).

It’s just been confirmed that we’ll be getting more of him on American TV, with Isaacs signing on for the medical drama Good Sam, reports Deadline. Right now there are only two actors cast, Isaacs and Sophia Bush (Chicago P.D.), who will be taking the title role.

Bush will play an accomplished surgeon, who is talented but stifled by her overbearing boss (Isaacs). It turns out, he’s also her father. When he falls into a coma, she can finally take on the responsibility she’s been craving.

Umm, coma? So, we won’t be seeing very much of Isaacs? Not to worry, he does wake up. And at that time, Sam becomes his supervisor.

The information on the pilot is limited. But, at this stage, it leaves us with some questions. Like, maybe the father-daughter duo shouldn’t work at the same hospital if it’s so uncomfortable? Is Sam concerned about her father’s welfare when he falls ill? Or… more interested in advancing her career?

We’d like to give her the benefit of the doubt, that she’s just as worried as she is ambitious.

Those Qs may be answered when the finished product comes out. The script is being written by Katie Wech (Rizzoli & Isles).

In the meantime, you can look for Isaacs in the first two seasons of Star Trek: Discovery as Captain Gabriel Lorca.

Is this something you can sign up for?
