This is not the Fantasy Island you know from the 1970s and ’80s. The original series was pretty straightforward, guests would arrive to the remote island with some sort of wish. Their host Mr. Rourke (Ricardo Montalban) and his assistant Tattoo (Hervé Villechaize) would help make the fantasy come true.

The new movie, starring Michael Peña as Mr. Rourke, starts off that way. But, we’re getting a Westworld vibe, in the sense that one of the guests (Lucy Hale) wants revenge on a childhood bully.

It becomes clear that this is no fantasy, the former bully is not a hologram and in fact the real deal:

The fantasies run the gamut, ranging from revenge to redemption. But, it turns out, the guests have been brought to the island to make someone else’s fantasy come true.

You may know Peña from 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. He was also spotted in 2018’s A Wrinkle in Time. Hale starred in Pretty Little Liars from 2010 through 2017. In 2018, she starred in the horror-thriller Truth or Dare.

Fantasy Island hits theaters on Valentine’s Day 2020. Romantic!
