If you’re hoping to see Henry Cavill suit up as Superman again, you could be in luck: the British actor has insisted he hasn’t yet given up on the role.

Cavill starred as Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel, then reprised the role in the 2016 superhero mash-up movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He made his third (and to date final) appearance as Superman in the following year’s Justice League.

However, it was reported in September 2018 that Cavill had exited the role, partly because Warner Bros. intended to steer its D.C. movie universe in a slightly different direction.

However, in a new interview, Cavill refuted suggestions he has relinquished the role. “The cape is in the closet,” he told Men’s Health. “It’s still mine.”

“I’ve not given up the role,” he added. “There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into. I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.”

In the meantime, we know for certain that Cavill is starring in The Witcher, a new fantasy series launching on Netflix in December. He’s also signed up to play Sherlock Holmes opposite Millie Bobby Brown and Killing Eve actress Fiona Shaw in Enola Holmes, a movie centered on the famous sleuth’s younger sister.
