Over the summer it was announced Michael Caine is set to star in the forthcoming comedy movie Best Sellers. He will take on the role of a “washed up” author.
And, who is to play his foil? Aubrey Plaza (Parks & Recreation) will portray an ambitious young editor, who has some serious pep in her step.
Caine’s character has resigned to live out the rest of his days quietly, with a bottle of scotch and his cat, away from the public eye. But now that there is a newbie publishing exec in his ear, he’s gotten his second wind.
Canadian actress Lina Roessler (Murdoch Mysteries) will make her feature directorial debut with Best Sellers. She will be working off of an original screenplay by Anthony Grieco, which won a 2015 Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting award.
You can also look for Caine in Christopher Nolan‘s 2020 action-thriller Tenet. And in the Oliver Twist adaptation, simply called Twist, also out in 2020.
About five years ago, Caine played with the idea of retiring… sort of. Following that decree, he was asked by a reporter at the Cannes Film Festival about playing “old people,” and he cheekily replied, “The only alternative to playing old people is playing dead people. I’ll pick elderly people.”
We’d like to put it on the record, we’re glad he hasn’t retired and is keen to play not-dead characters.
We’ve most recently seen Plaza in the sci-fi thriller series Legion, opposite Anglo favorite Dan Stevens (2017-2019).
Best Sellers is currently in production, with a premiere date still to be announced.
In the meantime, we’ll leave you with this vintage Anglo post: Who Does the Best Michael Caine Impersonation?
We’re really liking this teaming. What about you?Read More
