Julia Garner is everywhere these days, popping up in series like Ozark, Dirty John and Maniac. Not to mention, all three series aired in 2018.

Garner will be joined by Veep actress Anna Chlumsky in Inventing Anna, with David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada) directing and TV guru Shonda Rhimes producing and writing the script, reports Deadline.

The series is inspired by the 2018 New York Magazine article “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People” by Jessica Pressler. Who is Anna Delvey? That’s pretty much how this story starts out, with Chlumsky playing a reporter named Vivian, who is trying to answer that question.

Delvey, played by Garner, was believed to be a German heiress, who was gracing the New York social scene with her presence. But, she was the sort of socialite to accidentally leave her wallet at home. As the lavish nights out progressed and the bills piled up, Delvey was investigated and charged with multiple counts of larceny and theft.

It seems like Chlumsky’s Vivian was using Delvey for career advancement, looking for that big break story. But the writer became attached to her subject. Which is not all that surprising, with Anna Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, turning out to be a con artist. Manipulating people into trusting her was part of her trade.

Inventing Anna is in the early stages, but it will ultimately land over at Netflix.

You can currently look for Garner in the recently released Modern Love series, streaming via Amazon Prime. Rhimes is successful for hit TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal.
