Super-prolific Sean Bean has joined the cast of upcoming series Snowpiercer.
The Game of Thrones and Legends actor will appear in season two of the post-apocalyptic thriller series, which is based on the acclaimed 2013 movie and the same name.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles creator Josh Friedman is steering the series, which follows the human race’s struggle to survive seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland. Bean joins season one cast members including Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), who play survivors living on a constantly moving super-train that circles the globe in order to keep its inhabitants alive.
Season one is due to debut on TNT next year, with season two following in 2021. Shooting on the second season is already underway.
According to Deadline, Bean’s role in the series is being kept under wraps. However, the actor has recently revealed that he’s now trying to avoid roles in which his character dies, because he has become so known for his screen deaths. In fact, Bean has played characters who’ve perished more than 20 times over the years.
“I’ve turned down stuff. I’ve said, ‘They know my character’s going to die because I’m in it!,’” Bean told The Sun in September. “I just had to cut that out and start surviving, otherwise it was all a bit predictable. I did do one job and they said, ‘We’re going to kill you’, and I was like, ‘Oh no!’ and then they said, ‘Well, can we injure you badly?’ and I was like, ‘Okay, so long as I stay alive this time’.”
Good on you, Sean. Here’s to the survival of your Snowpiercer character.
