Jamie Bell is set to reunite with his Fantastic Four co-star Michael B. Jordan, but not for a sequel to the poorly received superhero reboot.
According to Variety, Bell is “in final negotiations” to join Jordan in a big screen adaptation of Tom Clancy‘s bestselling thriller novel Without Remorse.
Excitingly, the adaptation is being steered by a creative team who clearly know how to craft a hit thriller. Sicario: Day of the Soldado‘s Stefano Sollima is directing from a script by Taylor Sheridan, writer of both Sicario movies.
Bell has been cast as Robert Ritter, a senior CIA boss who helps to recruit Jordan’s character, John Clark, into the fold. Paramount is apparently planning to build a movie franchise around Jordan’s John Clark, a character who’s appeared in 17 Clancy novels over the years. There’s no word yet, though, on whether Bell’s character is also being lined up as a franchise regular alongside him.
Both characters have previously appeared on the big screen. In the 1994 Clancy adaptation Clear and Present Danger, which starred Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan, Willem Dafoe portrayed Clark and Henry Czerny played Ritter.
Bell, who plays Elton John‘s songwriting partner Bernie Taupin in this year’s rock biopic Rocketman, is already attached to star in another big screen thriller, The Chain. Co-starring Sebastian Stan, Margaret Qualley (Fosse/Verdon) and Denise Gough (Colette), it follows an unlikely chain of events that begins with a man’s daughter being bitten by a dog and ends in a terrible tragedy.
