Chiwetel Ejiofor is to square off against Mark Wahlberg in sci-fi thriller Infinite.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-nominated 12 Years a Slave actor has signed up for a villainous role in the movie directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Southpaw).

The cast also includes Kingsman: The Secret Service‘s Sophie Cookson and Teen Wolf‘s Dylan O’Brien.

Infinite is an adaptation of the novel The Reincarnationist Papers by Eric Maikranz. Wahlberg will play a man suffering from schizophrenia who becomes haunted by memories of his past lives when he uncovers an ancient secret society known as “the Infinite.”

Ejiofor will play a key member of the Infinite, a group of near-immortals who’ve spent centuries compiling human experiences into skills and experiences and honing them into superhuman-like abilities so they can further their own agenda.

It’s a part that sounds well-suited to Ejiofor, who’s coming off another villainous role, the dastardly Scar in Disney’s remake of The Lion King.

We’ll see him next in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, in which he co-stars opposite Angelina Jolie, Michelle Pfeiffer, Elle Fanning, and Imelda Staunton. The dark fantasy movie, a sequel to 2014’s Maleficent, opens in theaters October 18.

Are you looking forward to seeing Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mark Wahlberg in Infinite?
