Are you feeling just a little bit festive? The first trailer for holiday rom-com Last Christmas has arrived, and it shows London embracing the “the most wonderful time of the year.”
Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke and Crazy Rich Asians‘ Henry Golding star in the upcoming movie as two young Londoners who seem very different to one another: having gone through an illness, Clarke’s Kate is jaded and unmotivated, while Golding’s Tom is much more upbeat and enthusiastic.
Dame Emma Thompson, who co-wrote the screenplay and serves as a producer on the movie, co-stars as Kate’s concerned mother. The cast also includes Michelle Yeoh, Broadway legend Patti LuPone, and Ingrid Oliver (Doctor Who‘s Petronella Osgood).
Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Spy) directs and as the movie’s title suggests, it features the music of the late George Michael. His Wham! holiday classic “Last Christmas” and solo hit “Freedom! ’90” both feature prominently in the trailer.
Explaining how Last Christmas uses Michael’s music, Feig has told the BBC: “It’s not a musical, but George’s music affects the story. There are a couple of sections where the actors are actually interacting with the music and other sections where George’s music is driving, or underscoring the story. So it’s a nice mix of being neither a jukebox movie nor straight-up musical.”
Feig also revealed that Last Christmas will feature a previously unreleased, six-minute George Michael song that will play over its final scene and end credits.
The movie is due in theaters November 8.
