The forthcoming drama Hustlers is inspired by the real-life story of a group of strip club dancers who swindled their customers, which first ran in a New York Magazine expose in 2015. It was being referred to as a modern day Robin Hood story, except the difference was the women stole from the rich and gave to… themselves.

Jennifer Lopez takes on the role of Ramona, the ringleader of this rag-tag — but we should point out, very nicely dressed — group of women. In the recently released trailer (July 16), we hear her giving one of the younger girls a pep talk, saying, “The game is rigged and it does not reward people who play by the rules.”

The tough love appears to have worked, with the women deciding to go through with the duplicit scheme:

While some reports are referring to Hustlers as a heist film, the money-making plan all happened in plain sight… the men just weren’t aware of it. The women were overcharging the mens’ credit cards. But, they got greedy, going so far as to run an American Express for over $100,000, which set off red flags.

As well, not all of the men were extensively wealthy, maxing out one mark’s corporate credit card, resulting in him losing his job. Even if discovered, the women relied on the men’s embarrassment to come forward and admit that they had lost thousands of dollars at a gentleman’s club.

According to the New York Magazine article, the women were unfazed and had no sympathy or remorse.

Lopez is joined by Constance Wu, Cardi B., Lili Reinhart and Madeline Brewer.

Hustlers hits theaters on September 13.
