Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) has signed on for the 10-part Netflix series Firefly Lane, reports Deadline. Based on Kristin Hannah‘s 2007 novel, the story revolves around two women who have endured what comes with a 30-year friendship.
Heigl will play Tully, who is described as “ambitiously loyal force of nature.” But as the story progresses, we learn she and her friend Kate are at odds.
The two met in the summer of 1974, when Tully moved to a new neighborhood. She befriended the girl across the street, Kate, who was resigned to being a wallflower at school. But when the two become best friends, Kate gets an upgrade in popularity.
The friends hit a turning point as they get older, when Tully follows her ambition, pursuing a career in journalism. And Kate looks to settle down with a husband and family. Their bond is broken over a “betrayal” and it’s not clear if they can reconcile.
Heigl is rounding out her two-season run on the series Suits (2018-2019). We recently saw her in the crime thriller State of Affairs (2014-2015) and the legal drama Doubt (2017). Firefly Lane is in the early stages and has yet to announce a start date.
To backtrack, Heigl had a rough go of it when making some not-so-flattering comments about her role in Knocked Up. But, that was in 2007, and over 10 years have passed, possibly it’s time to give her a second chance, as suggested in this Huffington Post article from last year.
