We first saw Gerard Butler as Mike Banning in 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen. Then in 2016’s London Has Fallen. Now he’s back for 2019’s Angel Has Fallen.

The premise for the first two films were pretty similar, with the respective city’s leader in threat, and secret service agent Banning stepping in to save the day. This time around, in Angel Has Fallen, Banning is framed and setup to look like he’s the one who made an attempt on the life of the U.S. President (Morgan Freeman).

His efforts are two-fold: he needs to clear his name, while still stepping in to save the day.

The first two film names referred to cities. This time around, it’s Banning who is at the center of it all. He was about to be promoted to secret service director, the Golden Boy, but following his arrest, he… has fallen.

One might think these films are slightly repetitive, but the first-look footage is action-packed, the storyline is inventive, and we’d like to see how Banning gets himself out of this!?

The cast is rounded out with Jada Pinkett Smith, Piper Perabo and Nick Nolte as his dad.

Angel Has Fallen hits theaters on August 22, directed by Ric Roman Waugh.
