Chris Hemsworth has completed filming on Avengers: Endgame, reprising his role as the hammer-wielding Thor, and is now talking about what’s next for him.
And in order to look forward, he looks back at an earlier role, starring in the 2013 biopic Rush, revolving around Formula One drivers James Hunt (Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl).
When filming Rush, with all the race car driving, it was only natural for James Bond’s name to come up. In a recent interview with Balance magazine, Hemsworth relays a story from on-set, where it was suggested that he would make a great 007.
At the time, he thought to himself, “Cool, if this is my audition tape, then great.” Current day, he took it one step further, saying, “I don’t think you’ll ever meet anyone who doesn’t want to have a crack at James Bond. I’d love to do it.”
Hemsworth concedes that it’s really not up to him: “But that’s up to so many elements and is way beyond myself; it’s not one you can pitch yourself on to either.”
“It’s something that the community of Bond fans, Barbara Broccoli (film producer) and the whole crew there agree on, and it has to be a very organic decision from them. There have been a lot of names thrown out there and a lot of brilliant people can tackle that one.”
It doesn’t hurt to put it out in the universe, though.
ComingSoon.net just put out a poll asking, “Should a famous actor be the next James Bond?” and Hemsworth is on the list (the universe heard him!). Along with the usual suspects like Idris Elba, Henry Cavill and Tom Hiddleston. And some more surprising candidates like Michael Fassbender, Charlie Hunnam and Kit Harington.
Hmm, maybe it’s the power of suggestion — or him in a tuxedo (pictured above) — but we can totally picture Hemsworth as Bond, now. And, more importantly, he’s game for it. It’s not something he is torn over.
In the meantime, you can look for Hemsworth as Thor in Avengers: Endgame, premiering on April 26.
