Mamma mia! Here we go again… again! Carey Mulligan and Gemma Arterton will appear in a spoof of the jukebox musical sequel for the U.K.’s Red Nose Day broadcast.
Mulligan will play Amanda Seyfried‘s character Sophie, while Arterton will step into Lily James‘ dancing shoes as Young Donna. The send-up is being written by Jennifer Saunders, who will also appear as Meryl Streep‘s character Donna.
Saunders previously wrote and starred in a spoof of the original Mamma Mia! movie for the U.K.’s Red Nose Day broadcast in 2009. Miranda Hart and Sue Perkins (The Great British Baking Show) will reprise their roles from the first spoof as the film’s director and producer.
Other cast members confirmed for the new Red Nose Day parody include Tom Hollander as Andy Garcia‘s Fernando, though there’s no word yet on who’ll attempt a Cher impression as Donna’s mother Ruby. Perhaps RuPaul’s Drag Race alumnus and renowned Cher impersonator Chad Michaels could be tempted to take on the part?
The Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again spoof will air as part of the U.K.’s Red Nose Day programming on March 15, and could potentially air as part of NBC’s Red Nose Day programming in the U.S. on May 23, too.
Both U.K. and U.S. charity broadcasts will definitely feature the eagerly-anticipated Four Weddings and a Funeral mini-sequel which reunites original cast members including Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell, and Dame Kristin Scott Thomas.
